Our Aircore drilling system stands out for its ability to provide accurate sampling, a challenge traditionally faced in the exploration of such geological formations. The origin of this system traces back to Mick Bonacchi’s tenure as a Drilling Supervisor for the Water Authority, where he first identified the urgent need for a rapid, precise, and cost-efficient drilling method. This need was particularly pressing in the Gascoyne region during the 1980s, leading to the allocation of Commonwealth R&D funds aimed at developing an effective solution.
The initial version of the Aircore drilling system, funded by these R&D efforts, underwent successful trials and implementation in the early 1990s. Since establishing Austral Drilling in 1995, Mick has continuously refined and improved this system, leading to the sophisticated technology we employ today. Our modern Aircore drilling system has proven to be unparalleled in its efficiency and effectiveness, especially in ground water exploration drilling projects. One of its notable features includes the completion of investigation holes as 50mm ID monitoring wells. This is achieved by placing the casing through the inner tube before withdrawing the drill pipe, ensuring that the completed casing and screens are accurately set to the designed depths.
